Biography
Nacida en 1241 del segundo matrimonio de Fernando III, rey de Castilla y de León; por parte de su madre, Juana, descendía de Simón de Dammartin, conde de Aumale, y de María, condesa de Ponthieu.
A la muerte de Fernando III, en 1252, tanto la Reina viuda como sus hijos quedaron en una situación un tanto inestable. De hecho, Juana de Ponthieu regresó poco tiempo después a Francia, a sus estados del norte, acompañada de Fernando, el mayor de sus hijos varones. Por su parte, Leonor pronto abandonó también la Península Ibérica, aunque por un motivo bien distinto: su matrimonio con Eduardo, príncipe heredero de Inglaterra. [...]
